Sufficiency

Come rest your head, child, fall asleep
Dream your childhood end has gone;
Push out thoughts in a flaming boat -
    in the next life, you'll be strong.

Your men, picked out from club cheap trays
Buoyant, you hope they'll keep you afloat.
But when they reveal their own-centred ways
    Defer indecision, come weep.

Project your blame, we show you your ways
Unknown to you, we keep you afloat.
Soak up care, responsibility strays
    Delaying the need to be strong.

The life you crave, those men are all gone
Bereaved of self: Revealed, you weep.
Alas, before you slip the next boat
    Tend your child asleep.
