This
section is a repository of various presentations that I have given...
Any feedback is gratefully received if there are any inaccuracies - or
even thanks!

Please
note that these presentations represent my view on the subjects
presented at the time presented, and may not necessarily reflect the
views of other employees of any Company I work at or with, the sponsors
of the exhibitions that I present at, or the software vendors whose
products may be mentioned during the presentation. Feel free to argue
with them - if I get enough interest I might even open a forum for you
to commend / berate my views!!
Any
software examples given are installed at your own risk, and I accept no
liability for any unforeseen effects it may have on your system -
consequently, I would recommend using them on a non-essential / easily
overinstallable environment in case they cause you any problems. They
shouldn't, but you never know - and what may work today may cause issues
in future versions (backward compatibility being what it isn't).

PeopleSoft Application Classes - Easing the Path to
Fusion [UK Oracle User Group Conference 2007, Birmingham]
Application Classes have been available for a while now as an
alternative to function libraries in PeopleTools. The
object-oriented thinking that embodies this technology can be
seen as the road forwards to the final Fusion development
architecture. This seminar gives some real-life examples of how
to use Application Classes as a framework for your business
logic, and goes through some of the pros and cons for Designers,
Programmers and Managers. It also shows examples of how this
technology is actively employed within PeopleSoft Application
and Portal technology. It argues the advantages of reusable and
extensible coding, and that it is a mid-path shift in mindset
that will ease the eventual change from PeopleCode to Java, and
make the transition from PeopleCode to class-based Java far more
intuitive, thus minimising the transitional learning curve and
business impact of developer retraining. Time to get object
oriented.* n.b. to use change package
(containing project code etc. for the examples in this
presentation), either run through
change assistant, or unzip the package, and import the contained
.XML file project using Application Designer by navigating to
the updukough2007_human\HUMAN directory and importing the
project located here. Please note that the SQL used for the
update and compare is SQL Server based - you may like to change
this to the Oracle equivalent if you have difficulty getting it
to work (or better still, use the proper database-independent %
constructs - e.g replace + with %Concat etc.)
N.b. I would advise you to import this into a safe replacable
environment. mport this code at your own risk - I cannot
guarantee how (or if) it will import into your copy of
PeopleSoft, and assume no liability for any problems that may
arise from its use. It is based on a HCM 8.9 environment using
tools 8.45. |
