Vincent, Rest
by Simon Huggins

Can lovers ever be lost?
When gone from one another
Are they still one lover?
Whatever the cost.

One cradled by society's breast
In love with aiding
The defenseless, evading
Inquiring minds to rest.

What contradictions they know:
One linked to Above -
Both linked by their love -
One fiercely guarding Below.

A gentle beast in touch
With feelings most miss -
A love beyond kiss;
When hunger's danger's too much.

Softly, they feel
Each other's worlds creep
Together, destiny sweeps
Them to become their Achilles' heel.

Cruel fate! Their strength
Becomes their joint failing
With union, her ailing
Brings chaos and death at length.

See Vincent, he fights the beast -
When all he loved is lost.
A love that drew a heavy cost -
A burden, see fate cruelly feast.

Be still, your soul's Winterfest
may stir the beat of your heart.
Although unthinkable to start
your pulse again - she rests, Vincent - now rest.
