Surprised by Joy - William Wordsworth

Surprised by joy-impatient as the Wind
I turned to share the transport-Oh! with whom
But Thee, deep buried in the silent tomb,
That spot which no vicissitude can find?
Love, faithful love, recalled thee to my mind-
But how could I forget thee? Through what power,
Even for the least division of an hour,
Have I been so beguiled as to be blind
To my most grievous loss!-That thought's return
Was the worst pang that sorrow ever bore,
Save one, one only, when I stood forlorn,
Knowing my heart's best treasure was no more;
That neither present time, nor years unborn
Could to my sight that heavenly face restore.

(Writen 1815, for the poet's daughter Catherine who died at the age of 3 in 1812)

Many thanks go to Maira whose surname I do not know. She sent this to the Web Site on 22nd Dec 1998 - Here follow the text of here message. Thanks Maira, for this lost treasure!

Your website is spectacular. I've only just come across it and was so pleased to find it!

I didn't notice the inclusion of my favorite poem used in Beauty and the Beast so I am sending it to you with this note. I spent years looking for this poem after the episode Nor Iron Bars a Cage first aired here in the states on November 13, 1987. It was difficult to find because when Catherine reads this poen to Vincent at the end of the episode, we do not hear the first 5 lines.
I found the poem, through an almost magical chain of events, several years later. Here it is. I apologise if you have already included this and I did not see it.

Thank you.
