The Grim Rimming Ghost dishes out the Scoop on the cast of HELLBOY!!!
Hey folks, Harry here... Just got a letter from the Grim Rimming Ghost that gives us the complete scoop on the cast of HELLBOY. One thing I notice right off the bat is that it seems that Guillermo DelToro is casting roles, not stars. Going with Karel Roden as Rasputin is a bold move. He's an actor that hasn't seen much work in the west yet, but has been very good in what we've seen. John Hurt is now officially the biggest name in the film, in terms of recognizable known actors, which means Guillermo has cast a big budget horror action adventure comic book movie with character actors instead of egos. Now if REVOLUTION and SONY market the hell out HELLBOY the character, and educate the audience as to who he is.... WAY IN ADVANCE, well then they could end up with a remarkable project on their hands. It is nice to see it being done right. Here ya go....

It is I, the Grim Rimming Ghost with a scoop of protoplasmic delight. In the world of the supernatural, my talents are held in the highest of esteem, and in trade for my services, I'm often encrusted with information which just spills forth like you wouldn't believe.
Last night, I was in spectral ecstasy with a certain unnamed ichthyoid companion, with sources deep within the BPRD. Everyone at the BPRD is antsy and nervous and excited about the upcoming HELLBOY movie because, the cover is being pulled back on them and they don't want to be portrayed as not endowed with the amazing talents they are reputed to have.
My fishy companion seemed pleased. I mean, he was pleased by the casting thus far which is nearly complete. Only the beautiful Nazi woman, ILSA and the key audience character of MYERS have yet to be cast.
You don't need me to tell you about Ron Perlman as HELLBOY, I read your description of him and I must concur. My worm-sucking buddy, knows Hellboy and has many pictures of the two of them at various sporting events and taverns in and around Yancy Street. The shot of the two them playing Stickball was adorable. Such cute little buggers.
I saw online that people were saying Selma Blair was playing LIZ - I even heard that the crazy loving bastard directing the film confirmed it. I confirm it too.
As PROFESSOR BROOM, they have cast John Hurt, the one true Aragorn. Personally I feel he'll be just perfect. He has experience with weird sick directors asking him to do unspeakable things. (ALIENS and THE ELEPHANT MAN) He excelled in both.
For that mad monk, GRIGORI RASPUTIN, the jolly one has gone former Eastern Block on us. Karel Roden. You might have seen him in 15 MINUTES as the head bad guy. He also played Carter in BLADE II and is in BULLETPROOF MONK with Chow Yun Fat. He will be having a good deal of prosthetics in the creation of the ancient mesmerist and will have a classic Rasputin look.
The small part of DR. MANNING is going to Larry Miller, from all those Christopher Guest films.
Now, I don't know where you heard that Abe Sapien was going to be 100% CG, but my rotund lord, they lied to you. Doug Jones. Doug has a very eclectic history as a performer. He's played a Yeti in MONKEYBONE, a Morlock in THE TIME MACHINE, a Dead Iraqi Soldier in THREE KINGS, a Cockroach in MIMIC, the Thin Clown in BATMAN RETURNS, a Ripper in TANK GIRL and something called a Mother Bug in BUG BUSTER. He's one of those rail thin types. Abe will be about 80% Live Action, with the remaining 20% being CG for Sub-Aquatic movements that a human couldn't do. For the live action, he'll be a Puppet, Radio Controlled prosthetics upon the actor and a suit. The design for him was the brain squeeze of Jose Fernandez, Wayne Barlowe and Steve Wang.
Lastly we come to perhaps my pet fave character of the whole film. KRONEN. Kronen will be played by 3 different actors to capture to full range of motion and actions that this undead Nazi bastard with sandy blood has. When you see his baton blades, you'll stuff Hershey Bars down your throat for days to equal how sweet it is.

Hey, you know I was the 1000th Ghost at the Haunted Mansion, but Family Values put me out of my home, I was responsible for all those smiles till Disney exorcised me.
