RON PERLMAN - The vampire themed film "Blade 2" opens in the US on March 22.
Mr. Perlman's 2001 film set in WWII, "Enemy at the Gates," has earned a variety of honors. Written and directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, who featured Mr. Perlman in "Name of the Rose" (1986), "Enemy" was the first film to break audience resistance to foreign war films in China, drawing huge audiences. Now included in lists of "classic" World War II films, for weeks the film held first place when released to VHS. Currently, "Enemy" is one of five nominated films for the History Channel's fourth annual Harry Award. The winner will be named during a primetime special on March 23. The award is named for Heroditus the first great writer of historical works. Criteria for the prize are realism, historical accuracy, opinions of professional and amateur critics and audience response. "Saving Private Ryan" is a previous winner.
Dina Meyer, who is now filming with Mr. Perlman in "Star Trek:Nemesis," is concurrently shooting "Birds of Prey," a pilot for the WB TV network based on the DC Comics offshoot of Batman. Plot concerns a trio of female crime fighters. Meyer plays Barbara Gordon, a variation of Batgirl named "Oracle."
ALEX GANZA'S "Wolf Lake," the paranormal series which CBS cancelled, will be relaunched on sister network UPN. The "Wolf" pilot will air on April 3, 9:00 p.m., ET, followed in subsequent weeks by four never-before-seen episodes. If the series attracts an audience on UPN, the show might get a second chance on UPN this fall. Lou Diamond Phillips, who led the series, has two guest appearances on Fox TV's "24" playing a federal employee who helps Kiefer Sutherland. Paul Wasilewski, a star in "Wolf," now has the role of Lancelot in NBC's low budget fall series "Young Arthur" shooting in Prague.
RICK BAKER - Although not nominated for an Academy Award this year, on February 17, 2002 the Makeup Artists and Hair Stylists Guild presented Baker and his team the award for Best Special Makeup Effects for a Feature for "Planet of the Apes."
DELROY LINDO - (Isaac Stubbs, Catherine's judo teacher) Lindo is meeting with studio and network executives to discuss development of projects that would have him star in a series for fall 2002-03. Lindo recently co-starred in "Heist" (Gene Hackman, Danny DeVito) newly released on VHS/DVD, and "The Last Castle" (Robert Redford). He next joins Hilary Swank in the sci-fi drama "The Core" on a journey to the center of the Earth by astronauts who must restore the planet's core temperature by a nuclear detonation. Filming in Vancouver and Utah.
STEPHEN McHATTIE - His latest independent film, "Secretary," introduced at the February Sundance Film Festival, was bought for $1 million to be developed for distribution. Starring Lesley Ann Warren, Maggie Gyllendahl and James Spader, McHattie plays an abusive father to an insecure girl. The dark comedy has an intense, off beat love affair which could be controversial. It won the Sundance Special Jury Prize and Director's Award.
