To stop (or to begin) receiving updates as e-mail, notify me at the above e-mail address. I realize I've been unintentionally confusing. The last Q-fer has long been available on Eric Tullis' Songs of the Bluebird website. What JoAnn Baca and Jackie Newman did was to take ALL the issues of the Q-fer from the beginning to the end and combine all the listings therein. I had been in the foolish habit of deleting entries when a given zine became unavailable, so there were MANY more zines published than appeared in the final Q-fer. So, as edited and consolidated by JoAnn and Jackie, the current database contains essentially information and reviews on all the zines ever covered by the Q-fer as a guideline people can check, for instance re someone selling their zine collection, to get an idea of how well a given zine was carried off, its subject and craft and originality, its contributors (if it was an anthology zine), how much art, and so forth. I gave JoAnn and Jackie a free hand to do anything with the listings they thought would make them more helpful to current readers and my blessings on their adding reviews of zines that have come out since the Q-fer ceased publication. Clearer now? Again, for your reference, the URL is http://jsd119.tripod.com/qfer/index.html
Yesterday I saw the first promotion I've run into about the change from the Odyssey Channel to the Hallmark Channel, scheduled for sometime in August. Thus, the B&B marathon in late August through early September becomes not merely a repeat but a major promotion for the re-launch of this new cable channel. They are trusting the series to stand for the channel and please its viewers. May I suggest that everyone call their local cable company in the next week or so and ask eagerly if they are going to carry the Hallmark Channel, that you've heard such good things about what it will be carrying (Hallmark specials et al.), and so forth. Beat the drum a little for it. Odyssey/Hallmark has made its support of B&B clear. It would seem that the least we can do in response is promote it in its new clothes and give the cable systems the justified impression that there's increased interest in it, in the local area. Who knows? Maybe even my local foot-dragging Time-Warner cable will carry it now…with a few well-placed nudges. Consider this a HEAVY hint!
I invite anyone who would care to do a brief report on their experiences at
the recent NY con to send one to me. I'll include all I have space for,
reserving the right to edit to eliminate duplication, correct grammar or
spelling (if needed), and eliminate anything personal or derogatory, should any
of those weevils accidentally creep in.
I am happy to have confirmed that next year's convention will be in Orlando, A
Kingdom By The Sea III, to be organized and presided over by the usual Florida
suspects headed by Lyn Musacchio, on July 12 - 14. And in 2003, it's back to
California for A Distant Shore (III? IV? I've lost track!) in San Francisco. I
invite the con organizers to make known to me the URLs of their websites, as
soon as they're established, and declare myself willing to carry any notices
they wish to send on to me for relay.
As friend Roz Levinson appropriately put it, "So we're still alive."
And congratulations and thanks to Aurea Andino and this year's con committee for
their long and often frustrating labors to make this year's convention so
memorable…particularly for the 40 or so
"con virgins" I'm told attended.
The rest of this update belongs to that redoubtable Helper Judy Adams, who
sent a number of pertinent items for relay. Thanks, Judy!

If it's news and has to do with Beauty and the Beast, please think of the
Hotline and relay. We're all in this together keeping the dream of Beauty and
the Beast alive however we can. Beast wishes, be well, and goodbye.
