NAN DIBBLE'S HOTLINE UPDATE -
8th July 2001

This is the news for July 8 from Nan Dibble and Helpers' Network Hotline for fans of Beauty and the Beast. To contact me by e-mail, post to ndibble@fuse.net. To stop (or to begin) receiving updates as e-mail, notify me at the above e-mail address. To reach me by phone (evenings/weekends), call (513) 961-4813.The Helpers’ Network website is at http://home.fuse.net/helpnet.

Since last week I had no update, only Sightings, it seems appropriate that this week, I have an update but no Sightings. I’d done them during odd moments at work, then e-mailed them to myself at home…and guess what?! They didn’t arrive! I’ll collect them again on Monday and post them as e-mail and on the website tomorrow night. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Not surprisingly, with the convention next weekend, the bulk of the news is convention related. Here are some items from Aurea Andino, chair of the Concom:

I thought I would take this opportunity to announce that the online registration web page is working just fine. You can find them at http://www.onceuponatimeinnyc.org and just jump to the "register" page, fill in your choices as you go along, then go to checkout and make sure all the information for you is filled in correctly.

If you send me a note there is a GREAT chance that I won't see it and of course, no one should EVER send private, financial information over unsecured web pages or email. Our web store is controlled by a Secure Server that supports both US, Canada, and International Encryption.

You will receive a confirmation from the system. Please hang on to it. I review the information, process your charges and add you to our accounting system from which all of our badges, passes, and meal tickets are generated so it is very important to use this source.

If this is your first Con or its been a long time since you attended you will want to get acquainted with everyone. Please drop Shelia Keith a line (sgkeith@rcclub.org) and let her know about yourself. You don't want to miss a chance to meet and make new friends from all around the planet. Remember, it’s an international event and you just might want to say hi to a B&B friend while traveling abroad or around town.

If your club has MORE than 10 people who want to sit together at the Banquet. Please advise Olive McNeil (OPM888@aol.com) or Sandy Chandler Shelton, (chandler@rtchaos.com) because you will need a larger table than the usual round ones that seat 10 people at a time. Groups of 10 and smaller can sign up for a table at registration time on Friday at the Con. Only very large groups need to tell us of their needs.

It is imperative that everyone keep in mind that we must pay the caterer at month end and it takes time for charges to get to our accounts and even longer for checks to clear. If you are planning on sending a check or money order please use the Other option and I will look for your payment in the mail but get it to me as soon as possible.

If you are planning to hold a panel you will need to get on Melissa Bartell's schedule, (zenobia@zenitopia.com), and you will be hearing from Teri Pepe who will ask for a brief bio about yourself and a small abstract on the subject of your panel. You should also identify any need for flip charts or easels at this time. Teri is putting together a program that we hope will encourage attendance at panels by giving people more information on the many subjects of interest that take place in panels. I know myself that I have missed panels I would have liked to attend because I wasn't to sure what they were about. Please try to do this in a timely manner - we want your panels and discussions to be successful.

I have made some repairs to our systems to take some of the instability from our web pages and hopefully these will last through the Con so we can keep CABB running and keeping everyone informed on the goings on.

Runtime Chaos, Inc., is still running on an emergency basis because as most of you know our Internet Communications Provider, Northpoint, went bankrupt some months back, leaving thousands of ISP's scrambling to have the good old telephone company run new lines. New York's Tel Co moves with glacial speed as System Administrators gnash their teeth.

Our pages are up and the Con registrations are working so everyone please, please use them

I hope this clarifies things for everyone and we will be updating our pages quickly to keep you abreast of events.

Beast wishes,
Aurea

Hi Everyone,

Please be so kind as to pass this information along to everyone you know.

All registrations not already received by me must be accompanied by either a valid credit card or money order, cash, or traveler's checks. We will not be accepting personal checks since they can take a long time to clear and Hotel Catering service payments are due now.

We will continue to accept registrations but please be aware that immediate payments will be going to the Hotel catering services and we cannot refund the money once its out of our hands.

All refunds requests received up to today will be honored and those of you who paid for our defunct Beauty and the Beast on Broadway Theater Party will receive refunds.  Please note that 1/2 price tickets are available at the TKTS booth in the middle of  Times Square on the day of the performance.

If you have not yet registered and would like to receive Planned Convention food services please register now!

Day Passes will still be available at the door, the hotel does have food service for the public and there are many restaurants and eateries nearby but you probably don't want to miss the Banquet, the Celebrity Breakfast, and the Rooftop Bash!

See you at the Con!

Aurea

Hi Everyone,

It's getting very close to Convention Time on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, July 13th, 14th, 15th at the Holiday Inn Midtown 57th Street and your NYC area friends will definitely appreciate knowing that we will be showing never before shown kissing scenes that CBS censored. This is one NOT to be missed!

Please pass this on because I think there will be a lot of unhappy NY fans if they miss this one.

We are trying to get the word out to as many people as possible. Let your friends in the area know!

Day Passes are $45 and admit you to all events, contests, and exhibits.
And the most romantic B&B experience ever.

See you at the Con,

Aurea

If you are a latecomer please be sure to use the web pages to register despite any special payment arrangements you've had to make. It's important that we get your badges and meal choices and activities set up for your arrival.

If you've decided to come at the last minute, there is room at the Hotel, but you must INSIST on "The Great Rate", they will not offer it.
For Hotel info call 1-800-HOLIDAY. Or go to http://www.basshotels.com/holiday-inn?_franchisee=NYCUP - prices are about the same as Convention rates.

Nan again. On a personal note, I find the finances just aren’t up to a weekend stay in NYC, so despite all good intentions (and anticipations), I’m gonna miss the con this year. Bwaaahhhh! I send many good wishes and vicious envy to those able to attend. I’ll be thinking of you all next weekend and maybe some of you will send kind thoughts to all absent friends--those who wish they could be there and can’t. There are always more of us than anyone would suppose.

In other news, fandom friend and photographer (how’s that for alliteration?) Albert Ortega invites us to check out and sign the guest book of his new website http://www.ez-entertainment.com/ortega.html.

Helper Judy Adams send news of a Ron Perlman role I didn’t know about:

Nightmares become terrifying realities for soldiers who have become guinea pigs in a sleep-deprivation experiment.

I found this item on the Sci-Fi Wire:

Packed Terminator DVD Coming

MGM will release a DVD edition of James Cameron's landmark SF movie The Terminator in October, the DVD News Web site reported. The U.S. DVD release of the 1984 Arnold Schwarzenegger movie had been delayed because of contractual obligations, the site reported. The film has been released in Europe as a two-disc set.

MGM Home Entertainment will reportedly release the movie in the United States on a double-sided DVD-14 disc. The film has been remastered and cleaned up, and it will be released in widescreen format, with a newly created 5.1-channel Dolby digital audio track. The disc will contain a newly re-edited documentary, a retrospective featurette, deleted scenes, a collection of trailers and a DVD-ROM version of the film's shooting script. The DVD will also feature an image gallery and new interviews with and an audio commentary track from Cameron.

Thought some Linda Hamilton completists might be interested. Incidentally, it seems Terminator 3 is proceeding, and Edward Furlong, who played Linda’s son in T2, is returning. However, there’s been no mention of Linda’s participation and James Cameron will not be directing. Ah-nold, naturally, will be back….
