NAN DIBBLE'S HOTLINE UPDATE -
10th June 2001

This is the news for June 10 from Nan Dibble and Helpers' Network Hotline for fans of Beauty and the Beast. To contact me by e-mail, post to ndibble@fuse.net. To stop (or to begin) receiving updates as e-mail, notify me at the above e-mail address. To reach me by phone (evenings/weekends), call (513) 961-4813.The Helpers’ Network website is at http://home.fuse.net/helpnet.

I gather some people have had problems accessing my new Tripod site. For them in particular, I’ve done yet a third rendition of the novelizations--Word 2.x zipfiles--and posted them on the Helpers’ Network website (there wasn’t room for the chapters individually, but as one single file each, without art, I had room to put them there). So I hope everyone who wants to read these books will now have a way to download them, unzip them, and read them.

Thanks to Helper Judy Adams and Carolyn Huntington, who alert us that the Odyssey Channel is planning a Beauty and the Beast marathon on weekdays from August 28 through September 28, from 2 p to 4 p (ET/PT). Prime daytime viewing for those who can get that channel. And it strongly suggests that they feel B&B has value to the station and therefore will continue to carry the series, which I (for one) find a considerable relief.

I also thank those who, unlike me last Sunday, were able to access the Odyssey Channel’s program guide and determine that they are again launched on First Season, albeit showing “A Children’s Story” out of order. That’s understandable, since it was the first episode filmed after the pilot, but it didn’t actually air until #10. Vincent is particularly gorgeous in that one, with a curly wig they never used again (dunno why). Anyway, thanks. It now looks as though, whatever changes Odyssey is going through, its future plans DO include airing Beauty and the Beast.

Judy also mentioned that Linda Hamilton in Club Med aired on the Love Channel on Monday, June 4; though I now supplement Maxine’s painstakingly thorough sightings with what I can find on the TV Guide website, my cable system (Time-Warner) doesn’t carry that channel and therefore I don’t see its listings. So no matter how thorough Maxine and I attempt to be, there always will be Sightings we can’t know about in advance. I appreciate being told about them, even in retrospect, because what airs on one channel often airs soon on another, so we know to watch out specially for those programs to show up someplace else.

Helper Becky Bain alerted me to a change in the URL for the Beauty and the Beast Reading Chamber, where much fan writing can be found. I thank Becky and will change that link on my Resources and References page. Meanwhile, you may want to make note of it:

Thanks, Becky!

Helper Tom Witt tells us that "A Girl Thing" (the movie Linda was in on Showtime earlier this year) is now available on video and dvd at Blockbuster. Tom adds that on November 6, Showtime will release a special edition of "A Girl Thing" on video and dvd that has special features not seen in the original broadcast (just in case you never saw it or want to see it again).

Thanks, Tom!

From the Daily News/Reuters at Yahoo.com, the news that character actress Anne Haney (Tamara, “Dead of Winter”) has died at the age of 67.
The item reads:

Character actress Anne Haney dead at 67
By Doug Galloway

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Anne Haney, the longtime character actress who appeared in such films as “Mrs. Doubtfire”' and “Liar Liar”' died May 26 of natural causes at her home in Studio City. She was 67.
Haney began her career in Atlanta while married to Georgia Public Television executive John Haney. Following her husband's death in 1980, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she successfully continued to pursue roles.

During the 1990s, she guested on dozens of TV series, including “L.A. Law,'' “Matlock,'' “NYPD Blue,” “Chicago Hope,'' “Ally McBeal,'' “The Geena Davis Show'' and “Providence.'' She was also an active member of Theatre West.

She is survived by a daughter, sister and granddaughter.

A memorial will be held Friday at the Neighborhood Church in Pasadena.

From a post from recently ailing Sally Newman: “Wow. I was surprised to see my medical adventures made ‘the news.’ Thanks for your good care and wishes. I'm healing very fast and will soon be back up to more normal mischief. Wonder if you might post a note about FFF [Father’s Fan Fare]? I have asked the convention committee to schedule a place & time for all those interested in FFF to get together, discuss possibilities, and just have fun.

“I hope to have a meeting at the convention of anyone interested in Father's Fan Fare, making it better, and visiting with "family." Hope some of the early group will be there to party with the new!”

Nan again. I suggest that interested congoers check the schedule when they get in, to find out what time/place has been set aside for the FFF get-together. I believe that Sally’s Father’s Fan Fare is one of the oldest continuing fan outreach efforts and certainly one of the most successful. And I’m delighted to learn that Sally is recovering speedily!

Sally sent another post I consider of general interest. In it, she says, “Got a chance to talk to Linda Mooney today. She reports that husband Jim is still having biopsies every Tuesday but that the doctors say he can go home the 25th. This is very good news. It has been 3 years since Jim was put on the heart transplant list, so it's been a very long adventure that looks as if it will have a happy ending. We're so happy that Jim is doing well.”

Sally continues, “Linda has had some problems with her website, which sells 'zines. It's up now; see http://www.macwombat.com. After Jim gets home, Linda will continue the sale of her collection of B&TB 'zines. Right now she's renting an apartment so she can be near Jim until he can come home. The hospital drive was too long to keep up. Most of the longtime fans know Linda and her great work.  New fans might want to check out her site; it's neat.”

Yes indeed, it is, and so is Linda. Good to hear that things are improving with Linda and her family.
