| NAN DIBBLE'S HOTLINE UPDATE - 3rd June 2001 |
This is the news for June 3 from Nan Dibble and Helpers' Network Hotline for
fans of Beauty and the Beast. To contact me by e-mail, post to ndibble@fuse.net.
To stop (or to begin) receiving updates as e-mail, notify me at the above e-mail
address. To reach me by phone (evenings/weekends), call (513) 961-4813.The
Helpers’ Network website is at http://home.fuse.net/helpnet.
I now have (I think) everything regarding the novelizations in place on the
tripod site. The files exist as both .exe and .zip files, so you can pick
whichever format is best for you. I alert you to the fact that if you’re
trying to reach the website from within a corporate firewall, it may not let
you--the URL has an underline in it, and the firewall where I work will not let
me access it on that excuse. Yours may do the same. However, if anyone has
problems reaching the site or downloading and unzipping the material, let me
know and I’ll try to help figure it out. I’d be glad to get Letters of
Comment on the books from anyone inclined to post what they thought of either of
them. It’s been a long while since I had any feedback on those books, and I
would like to hear.
I remind you of the URL: http://n_dibble.tripod.net/index.htm

There were several updates/messages this week from Aurea Andino, Chair of the
ConCom. I group them together for simplicity.
Aurea says:
Please be sure to make your hotel reservations for the Con and mention the Once
Upon A Time Convention. The room block is going fast and I will need to know if
I need to adjust the room configuration.
The Holiday Inn Midtown - 57th Street's numbers are 1-800-231-0405 or
1-212-581-8100
Doubles are now in short supply for our special Once Upon A Time Convention
rates which are good from Wed. July 11th, through checkout on the 18th.
If you CANNOT get the room for the dates you want you have 2 choices:
1. Book your room using the general Holiday Inn Reservations number and ask for
the "Great Rate" which is only $20/night above the Convention rate and
there are no restrictions or special pricing for the number of people sharing a
room. They do have a web page and a general reservations number.
There are plenty of rooms available at the hotel.
2. Contact me, with your arrival and departure rates, the kind of room you want,
the number of people sharing the room and I will do my best to reconfigure the
block to suit your needs or try to add rooms to our contract. I cannot guarantee
results at this late date. Remember, I cannot make the reservation for you since
you will need to give the hotel a valid credit card number to hold the room.
(Nothing is charged to make the reservation).
Please do NOT send your hotel registration to me and don't send your Credit Card
data using email.
DO let me know if you run into availability problems and I will try to do the
best I can to assist and come up with what you need. You will still need to make
your own reservations. Please consider SHARING rooms. We do have a few people
who were looking for roomies.
Please pass this reminder on to your friends and if you are in the UK, I would
very much appreciate it if you share this information with Gwen Lord of the
Helper's Network in the UK.
Beast wishes,
Aurea Andino
Once Upon A Time In NYC Con Com and slowly on the mend.
__________
The New York Philharmonic will give a concert on the Great Lawn followed by
fireworks in Central Park at 8 PM on July 16, 2001.
There will be blanket space for all Con folks interested in attending.
__________
I would very much appreciate it if you pass this information forward to everyone
you know.
It has come to the Once Upon A Time In New York Convention Committee's attention
that there are folks under the impression that they will be able to "drop
by" and see their friends at the Con. Please be informed that no one will
be admitted to the Con Areas without a registration badge or daypass badge and
there will be NO exceptions. That prohibition applies equally to the Dealer's
Room, the Art Room, Panels, and Ballroom functions.
The Skylight Lounge is open to the public but the hotel does expect you to order
food and drinks. The hotel will not permit loitering in their lobby unless you
are there to see a guest or are a registered hotel guest.
If you want to see a friend who is attending the con please make private
arrangements but you will not be allowed into the Convention unless you pay your
way.
Please avoid embarrassment and pony up the dough!
Aurea Andino
Once Upon A Time In NYC, July 13th, 14th and 15th.
I appreciate Helper Oz Fontecchio’s relaying news about the sudden illness
of Helper Extraordinaire Sally Newman (aka “The Quilt Lady”)--and the vital
reassurance that she’s OK now.
Oz said,
“Hi all,
Thought I would pass along to Sally's many dear friends [in the fandom] the
latest word on Sally's condition. Rather than alarm anyone even for the length
of this message, I will let you all know that the story has a happy ending.
Sally was admitted to Fairfax Hospital in Virginia on an emergency basis for a
gallbladder condition during the Sunday and early Monday morning hours of
Memorial Day weekend. Although things were a little dicey at first with no
surgeon, operating room or bed available to her, a way was found and successful
surgery was performed on Memorial Day which resulted in her gall bladder being
removed. Throughout Sally was unfailing in her good humor, heart and
selflessness, qualities that we have all known and admired her for in the past.
While events swirled around her, she actually spent time worrying about
interfering with her companion's work schedule and the vacation schedule of her
surgeon!
Sally was released from the hospital yesterday and should soon be back hard at
work sending out her Father's Fan Fare messages in which she asks us all to
remember those who are sick and in need of encouragement. I think it would be a
nice gesture for all of us to let her know that we are remembering her in our
thoughts and prayers at this time.
Sally's snail mail address is:
Sally Newman
10714 Anita Drive
Mason Neck, VA 22079
[and her e-mail address is M300TDT@aol.com

Here are the Sightings, from Helper/Correspondent Maxine Mayer, through
Sunday, June 10.
Something is going on at Odyssey; I don’t yet know what. My local cable
company, Time-Warner, has apparently dropped them altogether in this area, and
Odyssey’s website is undergoing substantial changes that seem to indicate
they’re moving heavily into “family” programming. Their schedule was
unavailable for browsing. However, one TV listing service did have
B&B on Odyssey at the usual time next Sunday night, but no particular
episode was listed. The default is the pilot, but I doubt that they will air it
two weeks in a row. So I don’t know what the website changes betoken for our
series. I’ll keep checking and see if it’s any clearer next week than it is
now.

If it's news and has to do with Beauty and the Beast, please think of the
Hotline and relay. We're all in this together, keeping the dream of Beauty and
the Beast alive however we can. Beast wishes, be well, and goodbye.
