Another quiet news week. Only a few items. I hope you’re all enjoying a peaceful holiday weekend, with good weather (it’s POURING here!).

Some trenchant comments by Helper Yvonne Provencher bear sharing, I think:

Yvonne says,
Did you see the May 20th X-files? Was this show written by the same people who did "Though Lovers Be Lost"? It was like deja vu all over again, except that this one had a happy ending. A pregnant woman is giving birth under extreme circumstances and evil people threaten the child as it is being born. Scully was pleading with them not to take her baby. Mulder arrived in a helicopter, the evil people left but didn't take the baby. The chase scene where the bad guy was hit by the car but stayed on top of the car in the parking garage reminded me of "The Watcher" (when Vincent was run down by a car) and the time when Vincent reached inside a car to break the bad guy's neck. The elevator scene where the bad guy stuck his hand through the elevator door reminded me of T2. Of course, the presence of Robert Patrick is enough of a reminder of that movie. Was it just me or did others have some deja vu?

Nan again. I’m not an X-files fan, and therefore didn’t watch that episode, but I understand Jay Acovone was in it too. Still another connection! It sounds rather as if, instead of either the baby or the mother, the father disappears (is Mulder the father?). I gather Mulder will be a seldom part of the series from now on….I wonder how X-files fans will take this rather violent wrenching of their expectations? I certainly know some of how it went with B&B….

And Helper Tom Witt points out to us:

I was recently looking at the Classic Alliance of Beauty and the Beast site. One of the Links under CABB Links is a celebrity interview section. They have interviews with Jay Acovone, screenwriter Linda Campanelli, and makeup artist Margaret Bessera. All of them have very interesting memories about working on the show.

Nan again. I guess that means the CABB site is still UP. It has a wealth of information and pictures, which Tom kindly alerts me/us to, from time to time. It’s a shame they’re having such problems with their server. I comment the breadth and the depth that they’re able to bring, in terms of their sources.

Re the uploaded novelizations, Bright Spirit Descending and Beyond Words, Beyond Silence, I discovered (to my chagrin) that Mac users aren’t able to download the .exe files and, worse, I’d inadvertently skipped a chapter here and there (BSD 5, 13 & 14) in my effort to make sure that each of the downloadable .exe files was not much larger than 1 meg. I even stopped BWBS with Catherine off down the Cave tunnel, yelling “Vincent!” Shame on me, leaving readers hanging the same way CBS did! There’s a whole other chapter, past that…in my book, anyway.

I’ve restored all the missing chapters in a way I think they’ll be easy to find. Tomorrow I’ll work on uploading both books as plain .zip files, which I’m told Mac users will be able to handle. I should have this latter job done by Wednesday evening (uploading is even slower than downloading: I get timed out a lot, and have to start the whole thing all over again!).

The URL is still the same: http://nan_dibble.tripod.com/index.htm. Go from there to the download page for each of the books and collect whatever you’re missing, or whatever you want. If you choose the .exe files, don’t let your browser bully you into chickening out. Browsers tend to think all .exe files probably harbor secret viruses itching to get at your hard drive, and try to make you quit and back off and give up. These files are clean--they’ve only been turned into self-extracting zips in the hopes that will make them easier for everyone to handle. Nothing dangerous in them at all.

One of my sayings is, “Nothing in this life on one bounce,” and that certainly holds true for web design and multiple layers of website, which I’m learning by doing. This download site is the most technically complex job I’ve ever tackled, so I certainly hope my increased experience, and your enjoyment, prove it all worthwhile.

Here are the sightings through Sunday, June 3. I find it heartening to notice that, although B&B is finishing its current run latenight tonight, a new showing of the pilot is still scheduled for that same time, next week. So I dare to hope the series is to be run yet another time on the Odyssey channel, despite whatever changes they’re going through, administratively, given that Hallmark is now the controlling owner. I can’t get the Odyssey channel, but I nevertheless find it comforting to know that the series is still airing, somewhere, for someone, even though I can’t get it myself.
