| NAN DIBBLE'S HOTLINE UPDATE - 22nd April 2001 |
This is the news for April 22 from Nan Dibble and Helpers' Network Hotline
for fans of Beauty and the Beast. To contact me by e-mail, post to
ndibble@fuse.net . To stop (or to begin) receiving updates as e-mail, notify
me at the above e-mail address. To reach me by phone (evenings/weekends),
call (513) 961-4813.The Helpers' Network website is at
http://home.fuse.net/helpnet
I gather from a few posts that some people had trouble connecting to
Odyssey Channel's feedback form from the URL given in my update last week,
even though I faithfully and exactly copied it. Sometimes websites are like
that. If you'd like to thank Odyssey Channel for carrying B&B all this
while and hope they will continue to air the series, I suggest you go to
their "front page- http://www.odysseyonline.com
-and from there seek the
"Community Connection" part of the website. That's where the feedback form
is, where you can drop them a post.
Reminding you why this is worth doing, in last week's update,
Helper/Correspondent Darlene Sullivan disclosed that Odyssey has been
wholly taken over by Hallmark, one of its founders, and will eventually
become The Hallmark Channel. We want to encourage them not to change one
aspect of their current programming: the airing of the series Beauty and
the Beast. I have no reason to think they're intending to drop it, but a
timely word might help encourage them to hang onto it, should such a move
be proposed.
Timely news in from well-known fan artist Beth Blighton, currently most
active with the fandom of the series Earth 2.and partiularly its male lead,
Clancy Brown.
Beth says,
Hi Nan!
Just wanted to drop you a quick note to tell you that the Official Clancy
Brown Fan Club is holding an Online Auction/Benefit for J. Madison Wright
-- Clancy's young "Earth 2" co-star, who underwent a full heart transplant
last year.
I wanted to pass this news along because we are offering a large number of
older Starlog Magazines in this auction (via Ebay), and several of those
magazines have older "Beauty and the Beast" articles in them -- with Ron
Koslow, Ron Perlman, Howard Gordon, Roy Dotrice, Edward Albert, etc. And I
thought the lovely fans of B&B might like to take advantage of this
opportunity to get some oldies-but-goodies, and benefit a very worthwhile
cause at the same time!
The URL for the charity auction is:
http://www.geocities.com/skipperytoo/CBFCAuction.html
The auction site has links to the various Ebay auctions, or folks can look
up my auctions directly under skippery@parrett.net
on Ebay!
Thanks for passing the word along!
Best Wishes,
Beth Blighton
Next, a couple of convention-related items. Both are from ConCom chair
Aurea Andino.
Hi everyone,
There's been some confusion about the availability of rooms at the Holiday
Inn for the Once Upon A Time In NYC: A Homecoming Convention this summer
July 13th through 15th, mostly caused by the Inn themselves because of a
bug in their systems.
First let me tell you that there is plenty of room at the INN but it is
crucial that you follow OUR instructions to obtain the proper rates because
that is what is required by contract with the Holiday Inn- 57th Street
Midtown.
The Rules are simple:
1. Do not use the Holiday Inn website. Use the phone numbers on the Con
website: http://www.onceuponatimeinnyc.org
either 1-212-581-8100 or
1-800-231-0405. The Holiday Inn is not obliged to honor convention rate
bookings made any other way since our contract is with the individual hotel
and not the hotel chain.
2. Please be sure to mention "Once Upon A Time Convention" rates.
3. The rates are good from check-in Wednesday, July 11th through check-out
Wednesday July 18th.
4. Please check with a ConCom member before passing about con information.
The ConCom member list may be found at
http://www.onceuponatimeinnyc.org/Frames/index.htm
or even better contact
me, Aurea Andino at andino@rtchaos.com
(where I'm more likely to see the
post) or Melissa Bartell, webmaster and knower of all things,
zenobia@zenitopia.com
5. In the event that our block gets filled up we will do our best to
acquire additional room for the block before we announce that our block is
full. If you get a no room response from the hotel, please contact us as
soon as possible.
Check our Website for information http://www.onceuponatimeinnyc.org
and
feel free to contact Con Members.
Please distribute this information to far and wide, hither and yon, and
anyone else you can think of.
Thank you.

In another post, Aurea addressed the delicate matter of the con's chosen
charity, Hale House:
Hi Folks,
As some of you may know, there is an ongoing investigation as to Hale House
spends its money, for example, spending what is too much on advertising and
salaries as opposed to operating costs.
We want everyone to know that are contributions have always been in the
form of clothing, food, toys, papers and items directly useful to the
children. We don't make cash contributions to any organization unless
directed to do so by the contributor. Your donations to the Christmas fund
go to buy formula and diapers.
It is our intention to continue to make contributions that are directly to
the children.
