I'm rather tickled. Per longtime friend Kayla Rigney, the Helpers' Network
site has been selected for inclusion in Netscape's "What's Cool"
listings.
Neat! If you'd like to look at this "What's Cool" compendium, it's at
http://dmoz.org/.

Staying with Kayla, she's in search of Lyn Roewade's 'zine Spiral Staircase
#5. Can anybody help her locate a copy to buy or to borrow? Contact Kayla

In the never-ending suspense about the URL of the Classic Alliance for
Beauty and the Beast (CABB), Helper Diane Kenny posted to say that it's
http://www.rtchaos.com/cabb/cabb.html.
I've checked it out personally and
determined that it's right. So I've altered the link on my Reference page
and also put a link on my "front" page so that people looking for CABB
will
be able (I hope) to find it more easily.

Gwenda Bosse posts with good news: "Hi from South Africa. I just want to
tell you that The Magnificent Seven has just started here on our TV.
Gwenda"
Thanks for letting us all know, Gwenda.

This in from Helper Tom Witt: "If you go to the News section of the Linda
Hamilton Online website [http://www.lhow.com/], director Wayne Powers talks
about the premiere of Linda's new film, Skeletons in the Closet, at the
film festival in Utah. Wayne said he got some very good feedback on the
film. Now we just have to see if it goes into general release." In another
post, Tom adds, "Besides information about the dinner to benefit the Will
Geer Theater, the "What's New " section of Classic Alliance of Beauty
and
the Beast [http://www.rtchaos.com/cabb/cabb.html] also has an interesting
interview Linda Hamilton gave to TV Guide. She talks about how tumultuous
her life has the past few years. She also talks about her new TV movie,
"Bailey's Mistake." It was a pretty interesting article."
Thanks for the news, Tom.

Helper Khadi has what I consider a neat idea:
Khadi says (she's fond of modest lower case letters, so I'll leave them
that way):
hi nan,
recently i was talking to sally [Newman] on line and i asked if anyone had
ever published a Beauty and Beast cookbook. as far as we know...not yet. so
i posted a recipe request for Beauty and the Beast on the world wide
cooking club to see what kind of response i might get. I said, 'I would
like to find any recipes with a Beauty and Beast theme from the old TV
series...or from their stars: Linda Hamilton, Ron Perlman or any others of
which you know.' in the event that anyone out there has any beauty and the
beast theme recipes or recipes from any of the stars, post them to me at
the e-mail address below. best wishes to all and lots of love
khadi
ps. i just figured that if we collected enough...one day it might make a
great fund raiser.
Nan again: If you'd like to participate, post to Khadi at BaakrimeK@aol.com

A number of people were moved to mail me assorted poetry in honor of
Valentine's Day. Some were tart, some were sweet, but all were welcome.
Thanks, all! Here's a little fable I got by e-mail relay a few weeks back,
which I looked for but couldn't find last week, which I think is
particularly pertinent to the themes of Beauty and the Beast. I wanted to
share it with you. So here it is:
A PERFECT HEART
One day a young man was standing in the middle of the town proclaiming that
he had the most beautiful heart in the whole valley. A large crowd gathered
and they all admired his heart, for it was perfect. There was not a mark or
a flaw in it. Yes, they all agreed it truly was the most beautiful heart
they had ever seen. The young man was very proud and boasted more loudly
about his beautiful heart.
Suddenly, an old man appeared at the front of the crowd and said "Why your
heart is not nearly as beautiful as mine." The crowd and the young man
looked at the old man's heart. It was beating strongly, but full of scars,
it had places where pieces had been removed and other pieces put in, but
they didn't fit quite right and there were several jagged edges. In fact,
in some places there were deep gouges where whole pieces were missing.
The people stared. How can he say his heart is more beautiful, they
thought? The young man looked at the old man's heart and saw its state and
laughed. "You must be joking," he said. "Compare your heart with
mine, mine
is perfect and yours is a mess of scars and tears." "Yes," said
the old
man, "Yours is perfect looking but I would never trade with you.
You see, every scar represents a person to whom I have given my love. I
tear out a piece of my heart and give it to them, and often they give me a
piece of their heart which fits into the empty place in my heart, but
because the pieces aren't exact, I have some rough edges, which I cherish,
because they remind me of the love we shared. Sometimes I have given pieces
of my heart away, and the other person hasn't returned a piece of his heart
to me. These are the empty gouges...giving love is taking a chance.
Although these gouges are painful, they stay open, reminding me of the love
I have for these people too, and I hope someday they may return and fill
the space I have waiting.
So now do you see what true beauty is?"
The young man stood silently with tears running down his cheeks. He walked
up to the old man, reached into his perfect young and beautiful heart and
ripped a piece out. He offered it to the old man with trembling hands. The
old man took his offering, placed it in his heart and then took a piece
from his old scarred heart and placed it in the wound in the young man's
heart. It fit, but not perfectly, as there were some jagged edges.
The young man looked at his heart, not perfect anymore but more beautiful
than ever, since love from the old man's heart flowed into his. They
embraced and walked away side by side. How sad it must be to go through
life with a whole heart.
Remember...
Work like you don't need the money.
Love like you've never been hurt.
Dance like nobody is watching.
