In the spirit of Beauty and the Beast, I wish you all a romantic and
satisfying Valentine's day filled with thoughts of those you love.who also
love you. For those who (like me) are still seeking our own personal
version of Vincent, just Remember Love.and keep looking! As long as you can
imagine and believe, Love cannot be very far away. Perhaps a chance meeting
on a streetcorner (as with Father) or a turn into an initially unpromising
Tunnel and a certain husky, whispering voice.. Imagine. Remember. Believe.
This is, after all, the heart of the Dream that we have banded together to
keep alive. As long as it lives in us, it lives. And this is its day. So
celebrate it well.

This in from Helper/Correspondent Darlene Sullivan:
Hi ----
>From The Hollywood Reporter: Jean-Jacques Annaud, who directed Ron Perlman
in "Quest for Fire," "Name of the Rose," and "Enemy at
the Gates" (which
debuted 2/7/01 at the Berlin International Film Festival), has been named
the first recipient of the Cine Tirol Award sponsored by the Tirol Film
Commission which promotes filming in the Austrian Alpine region. Annaud
filmed his 1997 "Seven Years in Tibet" and 1989's "The Bear"
in the Tirol.
The award ceremony is scheduled for the end of March.
Congratulations to the devoted USA and British "Magnificent 7" fan
clubs
who helped Ron Perlman's TV series begin its British run on February 4th.
And congratulations to Mag 7's leading lady, Laurie Holden, for having been
selected to star opposite Jim Carrey in "The Majestic." Set during the
1950's, the film is about an ambitious but blacklisted Hollywood
screenwriter (Carrey) who loses his job and identity, only to find new
courage through the love of a woman (Holden) in a small town.
Variety said the film's director, Frank Darabont, selected a virtual
unknown as Carrey's leading lady through Holden's work in "The
X-Files."
Said Darabont, "She beat out a lot of other people for this role, and I'm
thrilled at presenting a fresh face to the audience. I think she's going to
capture a lot of hearts and blow people away."

A Helper who did not give her name reports, "In the "What's New"
section of
Classic Alliance of Beauty and the Beast, it mentions that Linda Hamilton,
Roy Dotrice, and Ellen Geer are scheduled to appear together at a benefit
on February 24 to support the Will Geer Theater. So if you would like to
attend, it lists a number to call to make a reservation.(It's $100 a ticket)
Last I was told, I believe, the CABB site was at
http://www.rtchaos/cabb/cabb.html.
If it's elsewhere, please advise (again)
so I can update my link.

Philip Smith, of NovTek, who with wife Julie had a crisis-filled and at
times catastrophic year, last year, has some excellent news.
Philip says:
Between all the things that have been going on in our lives, it has taken
its toll on us. We appreciate the support of all our beast friends. I
think we have made it, although I am not quite sure how. The one thing I am
sure of is that the letters, thoughts, and prayers helped make it possible.
Jordan, (AKA: Critter) is doing fine and I have updated his web site with
some Christmas pictures. http://www.ionet.net/~jasmith/index2.html
All of this has been interesting, but the news about the con tapes is that
they are FINISHED! Currently they are in duplication and should start going
out around the end of the week and the first part of next week. Those
customers who have registered with our web site will get an e-mail when
theirs goes out. We all appreciate your patience in our getting these
tapes done and out.
Nan again. In response to my query, Philip was kind enough to add ordering
information on these tapes of last July's convention, which featured
surprise appearances by Ron Perlman and Roy Dotrice, in addition to the
scheduled guests, lively Q&A sessions and some panel discussions, as well
as miscellaneous highlights which have always made NovTek's con tapes so
splendid both for those who attended the convention (you can't possibly see
EVERYTHING!) and those who couldn't make it but want to know what went on
there.
Philip says,
The price is still $50 per set.
Domestic shipping and handling is $5. So domestic orders are $55.
Foreign rates vary and we can answer rates on an individual basis at the
address or phone below or at sales@novtekvideo.com.
PAL conversions are $40.
Orders will be accepted through snail mail at:
NovTek
PMB #136
3171-A S. 129th E. Ave.
Tulsa, OK 74134
Or by phone to: (918)743-3450
or online at: http://www.novtekvideo.com/bnb/
then click the "2000
Convention" selection. To order on line, you must be registered and logged
in. Logging in is painless and free. We just want to know who is browsing
and ordering off of our site.
Until the Pre-Orders are filled, I will leave the Pre-Order page up. After
that, I will change it to an Order page. However, the purchase result is
exactly the same. There are just fewer pictures on the Pre-Order page.
We accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.
Thanks for thoughts, wishes, and help.

Per Sally Newman, First Fandom writer Linda Mooney is in need of
encouraging thoughts.and $$$. According to a post from Linda that Sally
forwarded to me, Linda says, "My husband has been in the hospital in
Houston (125 miles away) since Oct., waiting for a heart transplant. In
fact, he's been waiting (on the list) for the past 3 1/2 years. To be
honest, things are "tight" right now. Medical bills are
overwhelming us,
even tho we have insurance.
As a result, I've been selling off bits and pieces of paraphernalia I've
saved over the years. I'm now selling my lot of B&B fanzines I've collected
since '89. Many of them are my contrib. copies. Almost all of these
people/editors/presses are no longer in business.
People can find what is up for sale by going to www.macwombat.com,
scrolling down to the B&B site, and clicking on the SALE sign. I will
adding to and updating the list frequently."
Nan again. If you'd like to send Linda and family some virtual hand-holding
and hugs, you can reach her at
Linda Mooney
309 Queenswood Trail
Victoria, TX 77901
Very likely, the McWombat site also has a place where you could post her an
e-mail, as well.

Another of the First Fandom, artist Beth Blighton, is selling off a few of
her items, too. Beth says, "Well, the walls are all full, my little house
is bursting at it's seams, and now appeared to be as good a time as any to
start letting go of a good chunk of my "Beauty and the Beast"
collection,
so maybe some other people can enjoy these items! ; To that end, over the
coming weeks, I will be offering bits and pieces from my B&B cellar on Ebay
-- items that will include photos, zines, and *yes*.... ; even original art
work! ; So folks who might be interested may want to keep an eye out! ;
They can do an Ebay (http://www.ebay.com)
search for my Seller's Name
(skippery@parrett.net) to see all the
goodies as they become available. The
first batch of things, which includes about a dozen color and B&W 8x10s of
Ron, Linda, and even a couple autographed pics, is up for auction already.
I will add more auctions over the next month or so, and keep you posted as
I can.
I hope that some of my fan friends get as much joy out of these memories as
they've given me!
Thanks and Best Wishes,
Beth Blighton

Staying with sales, a lady named Cheryl is hopefully seeking a copy of the
Olivia poster-the oil painting featured in "When the Bluebird Sings."
If
you have a copy you're willing to part with, or know someone who does, you
can contact Cheryl at Chcat277@aol.com and
arrange details of price,
postage, and so on.

In honor of Valentine's day, some thoughts on beauty, women, and
miscellaneous related matters collected from e-mails in the past month..
Did you know that if shop mannequins were real women they'd be too thin to
menstruate?
There are 3 billion women who don't look like supermodels - and only eight
who do.
Marilyn Monroe wore a size 14.
If Barbie was a real woman, she'd have to walk on all fours due to her
proportions.
The average woman weighs 144 lbs. and wears between a 12-14.
One out of every four college aged women has an eating disorder.
The models in the magazines are airbrushed - not perfect!
A psychological study in 1995 found that three minutes spent looking at a
fashion magazine caused 70% of women to feel depressed, guilty, and ashamed.
Models twenty years ago weighed 8% less than the average woman. Today they
weigh 23% less.
Beauty of a Woman -
The beauty of a woman Is not in
The clothes she wears
The figure she carries
Or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman
Must be seen from her eyes,
Because that is the doorway to her heart,
The place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman
Is not in a facial mole,
But true beauty in a woman
Is reflected in her soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives,
The passion that she shows,
The beauty of a woman
With passing years - only grows.
The Images of Mother -
4 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mommy can do anything!
8 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!
12 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.
14 YEARS OF AGE ~ Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either.
16 YEARS OF AGE ~ Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.
18 YEARS OF AGE ~ That old woman? She's way out of date!
25 YEARS OF AGE ~ Well, she might know a little bit about it.
35 YEARS OF AGE ~ Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.
45 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?
65 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wish I could talk it over with Mom.
