Helper Cathy Moran has an announcement about the conzine for the 2001
convention all the writers experienced and inexperienced out there should
take good note of.

Cathy says:

Our annual Beauty and the Beast convention for 2001, Once Upon A Time: A
Homecoming, is just around the corner. This means that compilation of the
conzine is even closer still, so it's time for the artists and authors in
our midst to get those pencils moving!

Following are the guidelines that have been set for this year's zine.
Note that the deadline is a few days later than was originally stated in
the convention info, however this date must remain firm.  Let's all work
together to make this year's conzine one that will bring fond memories of
our trip back to where it all began.

ONCE UPON A TIME: A HOMECOMING
Conzine Guidelines

--All works must be original and cannot have been published anywhere else.
--Artwork, stories and poetry from all categories (i.e. classic, SND, 3S
and beyond, and alternate universe) will be accepted for consideration.
However, I do ask that you identify the category your story falls in when
you submit it.
--Submit all works in any of the following ways by April 10, 2001. E-mail
or disk is preferred so I don't have to rekey it into my computer, but I'm
willing to work with whatever means are necessary.
--Please include your snail mail and/or e-mail address with your submission.

1. Email to Cathy Moran at CatM412@aol.com OR CatM412@home.com preferably
in text format. (Please note: after the deadline, the AOL addy will no
longer be in affect).
2.  Mail 3.5 PC floppy disk (text format preferred) to:
     Cathy Moran
     1118 Summerwind Place
     Nampa Idaho 83651
3.  Mail hard copy of your contribution to the above address.

STORIES:

--Double-spaced, maximum length of 30 pages is preferred.
--Rating of G, PG, or R

ARTWORK

--Submit a copy. If selected, we will ask you to send an original --G or PG
is preferred

PLEASE NOTE: In lieu of the sensitive nature of our fandom in general,
categories (classic, 3S, etc) and ratings (G, PG, R) will be separated
and/or clearly identified in this conzine.

And an announcement from the Chair of the ConCom, Aurea Andino:

Aurea says:

Hi Everyone,

If you had trouble getting to our pages for Early Con Registration please
know that the option is still available and will be up until this coming
Sunday 1/21 at Midnight.

To read all about it got to http://chaos.rtchaos.com/convention/con2001.html.
To register go to http://www.onceuponatimeinnyc.org and click on Terrie's
picture in the center to get to our secure server registration pages.

I think this is a good time to remind everyone that your registration fees,
at the standard registration price, can be paid in 4 installments making it
a little easier on the post holiday bills. I hope you'll take advantage of it.

This is also an excellent time to look for summer travel bargains. July is
New York's slow season and there discounts to be had. My favorite is
http://www.cheaptickets.com. Mid week and off hour flights are your best bet.

Zeni will be building up our website with lots of info.

Again if you had trouble getting on the system for early registration
please try now.

Kay posted to give further information on the effort to reverse the
cancellation of "Madigan Men." Kay says, as introduction to further post:

As many of you already know, I am a fan of Gabriel Byrne.  Last month ABC
abruptly cancelled his delightful sitcom Madigan Men.  This decision has
upset many fans, not only of Gabriel, costars Roy Dotrice and Grant Shaud,
but also people who enjoy good, clean entertainment.

Lynne, one of the ladies, has set up an online petition concerning the
show.  Please take a moment to go read and hopefully sign the petition.

Also, pass on this information to friends and family.

If you believe that these things don't mean anything, please reconsider.

After NBC decided not to make a Part 2 for the miniseries The Tenth
Kingdom, fans set up a petition at the PetitionOnline site. NBC did not
change its mind about making the sequel but was so impressed with the fans
that they recently signed Scott Cohen to a contract. Also, the producer of
the series is now negotiating with Showtime to make Part 2 . And , from
what I have been told, much of the credit goes to the fans online.

Thanks so much for your help.

Hugs, Kay

Live in today.  Learn from yesterday. Hope for tomorrow.

Dear Friends,

I have just read and signed the online petition "In Support of Madigan Men"
hosted on the web by PetitionOnline.com, the free online petition service, at:

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/MM1lm/

I personally agree with what this petition says, and I think you might
agree, too. If you can spare a moment, please take a look, and consider
signing yourself.

Please forward this message to your friends, co-workers and family - and
everybody else you might think would be willing to sign.

Best wishes,

Betina Jakobsen

Helper Regina Jansen offers yet another B&B screen saver-with a difference:
she has one devoted to Linda Hamilton. Regina says (in a post composed,
interestingly enough, in a font called "Lynda Cursive"):

Hi!

On my homepage, people can download a free screensaver from Linda Hamilton
and one of Beauty and the Beast.

Thank you for giving me Beauty and the beast magazine (Helpers' Network
Updates)

My homepage: http://home.planet.nl/~jan80933/index.htm
http://members.tripod.lycos.nl/Regina/index.html

Nan again. I'm not sure which is her home page, or if both are, but I'm
sure those interested in checking out the Linda Hamilton screen saver will
figure it out by visiting BOTH. And thanks to you, Regina, for sharing your
gift, freely, with the fandom at large. That is, after all, part of what
the spirit of Beauty and the Beast is all about-not to mention Keeping the
Dream Alive, however we can, in whatever ways we can imagine.

Thought for upcoming Valentine's day-will the person (I forget who) who put
up the "kiss Vincent" page a couple of years back be doing so again? I
encourage her to do so: it was fun! And please tell me the URL, so that I
can pass it along.

Simon Huggins, who maintains the website of Helpers' Network UK, has an
announcement about a change of URL for that website and information on its
updates. I've combined two posts, the later one changing information in the
earlier one, so I hope that I have the URL and the e-mail address correct.
I trust someone will give me further information if I haven't understood
Simon exactly right. Anyway, here's Simon's news:

This is to let you know that the Helper's Network (UK) web site has been
updated substantially. Apologies for the rather huge delay since the last
update. This has been an unfortunate combination of family and work
concerns, and my ISP going bust! I am now hosting the site independent from
any ISP in the US (it's cheaper there!) for about $10 a month rather than
the $17 a month + extra I'm paying at the moment. With the last update, I
exceeded my 25Mb limit, so I had to change providers, or pay a huge amount
more per month anyways!

Unfortunately, this has necessitated a change of web address. I have had my
name registered as a domain name, so the web site is at
http://www.simonhuggins.com/helpers.htm. And you can send e-mail to
ukhelpers@simonhuggins.com to reach me.

This is a description of the latest updates:
4th January 2001 Helper's Eye: Apology, HNUK Web Site / Email Change of
Location. Rita Davies steps down from B&B British Fan Club, November issue
of HNUK newsletter, new section with history of Nan Dibble's Updates back
to 24th September 2000.

Roy Dotrice Fan Club: Madigan Man Cancellation, Roy's Birthday, Reunion
Number 3

Contacts: General overhaul of whole section

Conventions: July 2001 - New York USA Convention. UK 2001 "A moment in
time" Convention.

Web & Pen Pals: Added massive new 'Pen Pals' section, with almost a hundred
contacts from the UK and other parts of the world! Added 1 new email
address to web pals section.

Subscriptions: New section available detailing back issues of HNUK newsletter.

Merchandise: Over thirty audio tapes available from Gwen Lord.

Episodes: Episode 2 (Terrible Savior) and Episode 3 (Siege) from Epi-Log
Journal. Also Episode 2 and Episode 3 from B&B Companion.

Next update will be at the end of February, all going well!

Regards,

Simon Huggins.

Nan again. When I'm reasonably sure I have both the e-mail and URL right,
I'll change the information on the References and Resources portion of my
modest (under 5 meg) website.

If it's news and has to do with Beauty and the Beast, please think of the
Hotline and relay. We're all in this together, keeping the dream of Beauty
and the Beast alive however we can. Beast wishes, be well, and goodbye.
