I don't know about the rest of you, but these three-day weekends are gonna
be the ruination of me. Everything gets discombobulated and I don't get
ANYTHING done (as opposed to the little I usually get done). This last
weekend was blown out of the water by the failure of my furnace, getting
that fixed before the pipes froze, and then scrambling around to find a way
to pay for the repair (which was NOT either in my budget nor within my
means.) Panic city!!! However, it seems all will turn out OK thanks to the
generosity of a friend (YOU know who you are!) who rescued me from the
ignominy of bouncing checks and other such awkwardnesses. I don't know if
my life is getting crazier by the day or if it only seems that way. I'll
try to get the hotline updates back on schedule, on Sundays, now that I
won't have any long weekends to make me think I have much more time than I
do to get to things I end up not getting to at all.

If you've been half as curious as I about what the "blood pack" (Ron
Perlman will be playing one) involves, here's something I ran into on the
SciFi wire website:

9:00am ET, 4-January-01

Blade 2 Bloodpack Unveiled

Timothy Bradstreet, who contributed designs for the upcoming movie Blade 2:
Bloodhunt, told the Comics Continuum Web site that the film will feature a
stylized band of vampires called the Bloodpack. "I ... set about creating
an individual look for the eight members of the BP," Bradstreet told the
site. "Some have tattoos, some are ultra-slick, and some are based on my
own 'Gypsy White Trash' vampire look. They all bear the mark of [the
villain] Damaskinos, and they are all battle-hardened vampire warriors."

Bradstreet added, "I was given a lot of room to add my own visual style to
the characters. Reinhardt, the leader, wears a tattoo of a black hand on
his forehead. [Director] Guillermo [Del Toro] had seen an illustration of
mine that had a similar tattoo and wanted this character to have that look."

Other characters in the Bloodpack include Priest, who fought under Napoleon
in the 7th Hussars; Lighthammer, a tattooed Maori tribesman; and Verlaine,
the twin sister of the Traci Lords character from the first film.

Bradstreet added that Tcheky Karyo would be offered the role of Damaskinos,
but said that Terence Stamp, David Bowie and Donald Sutherland were also
being considered.

Don't you feel much better for knowing this?

Here's news of still another new project for Ron (who must be pleased to be
in so much work, even if some of the projects seems to be of dubious
artistic merit) from Helper/Correspondent Darlene Sullivan.

Hi All ---

The January 8, 2001 Hollywood Reporter lists another new Ron Perlman film
in production. "How to Go Out on a Date in Queens" (Drama), shooting in Los
Angeles and Queens, New York. Filming started December 5, 2000. The cast
includes Jason Alexander, Rob Estes, Ron Perlman, Kimberly Williams, Esai
Morales, Alison Eastwood, Brian Drillinger, Christine Dunford, Meredith
Scottlynn and Enrique Murciano. Rob Estes is one of the producers.

Thanks, Darlene! Thinking hopeful thoughts toward you.you know why.

Here's a teaser-something that's not quite soup yet but nearly, I'm told.
JoAnn Baca and her friend Jackie Newman have undertaken the massive chore
of turning ALL the Q-fer listings into html, so they can be posted on a
website in searchable form. To aid that effort, I sent them copies of the
Q-fer from the beginning to the last one. JoAnn tells me that reviews of
newer zines (since I stopped doing the Q-fer) have also been added. For
newbies, let me add that the Q-fer (full name the Helpers' Network Quality
Fanzine Review), done mostly by me, was a listing and review of nearly all
the B&B zines ever written/published. Virtually all of them are now out of
print and cannot be directly ordered, but they turn up from time to time
for sale at cons and privately, within the fandom, as somebody clears out
their collection. So as JoAnn wisely observed, a guide to what they cover
and which ones are absolutely "keepers" can still be of use to the fandom.
This effort has my wholehearted support. JoAnn says she's got a test site
up now (and NO, I won't tell you what it is!) and will be ready with the
"real" site quite soon now. I can't wait to see what it looks like! And
when it's ready, JoAnn will let me know, and I'll let you know. Something
to look forward to, ne?

From Helper Tom Witt, a heads-up about Linda Hamilton.

Tom says:

If you check the news section of the Linda Hamilton Online website, it says
that Linda's new film, Skeletons in the Closet, will debut at a film
festival  in Park City, Utah on January 20. There are also news updates
about  It's A Girl Thing, the movie she did for  Showtime, and Bailey's
Mistake, the movie she's making for ABC.

Per Tom, the Linda Hamilton website is at http://www.lhow.com. I thank Tom
for being most vigilant in keeping us all abreast of Linda Hamilton's
current and upcoming projects. At least she doesn't have to be tattooed!

Patron of the arts and Helper Extraordinaire Sue Haley has a notice.

Sue says:

At last... I have uploaded images of Kevin Barnes new artwork from the
Distant Shore convention. I was holding off, waiting for better images than
I had myself but I decided to upload these and replace them later if I get
better ones.  Four new paintings are now on view on Kevin's pages
http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/suehaley/kevin.htm

I am also in the process of uploading back issues of the Myhr's Lair
Newletters to the Lair site
http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/suehaley/lair.htm.   The first three issues
from volume two are already there and others will be added as I do them.

Nan again. If you haven't seen Kevin's wonderful artwork displayed at the
convention last summer )or even if you HAVE: Kevin's art is always worth a
second look!), you have a treat in store for you. I encourage everyone to
go and enjoy Sue's updated gallery of Kevin Barnes art!

Helper Clairyce has a take on the perennially repeated appearance of Roy
Dotrice in the spectacularly silly "Cheech & Chong's The Corsican
Brothers," a staple of the Sightings from month to month. Clairyce
comments, "I was channel surfing at dialysis the other night and came upon
a shocking sighting on The Comedy Channel. If anyone would like to see a
truly different side of Roy Dotrice, they should hunt up the 1984 version
of "The Corsican Brothers" starring Cheech and Chong and (yep) our own dear
Father as an evil Frenchman (complete with curly wig, foppish dress and
makeup, and a French poodle to complete the ensemble). And you haven't
lived until you've heard his French accent. I watched about 10 minutes of
it in fascinated horror and then surfed on... I hope diehard Roy fans can
endure more of it than I!"

To which I say YEP. Reminds me of a comment friend Roz made re Ron Perlman
as scruffy, drunken, horrible father of Huckleberry Finn in the movie of
that name: "I bet I was the only one in the theater lusting after Pap
Finn!" You have to be a real die-hard fan to stomach some of OUR FOLKS'
lesser efforts.. Of which The Corsican Brothers is surely one!

Helper Kathy Battershell tells me that Armin Shimerman (Pascal/Quark)
appeared on Judging Amy last Tues night. CBS 10 EST/9CST. Kathy adds, "TV
Guide hardly puts in guest names anymore. I saw an ad Sat night." Kathy, I
thank you for the sighting, even though my confusedness prevented my
posting an update that would have given people forewarning.
