These announcements from the ConCom of the 2001 NYC convention:

Please pass this on to everyone you know. :->

Hello Everyone,

We would like to bring your attention to our new Secure Online Registration
Service via Runtime Chaos. Everyone registering and paying in full by year
end can take advantage of our discounted Con Registration rate. There is a
one-time $2.00 Service charge to defray Runtime's processing expenses.

Our web site is http://www.onceuponatimeinnyc.org and while we are
completing the site we encourage you to take a good look at the summary web
page. Please pay close attention to the Holiday Inn's pricing structure
which was misquoted in our original brochure. The terms TRIPLE and QUAD
refer to the number of people sharing a room with 2 full size beds, (A
DOUBLE). The rooms are unusually large as New York hotels go so an
additional rollaway bed fits comfortably in the rooms. Most rooms have
spectacular views, by the way.

We have planned activities for early arrivals and invite you to stay and
enjoy New York City's many attractions. Activities are planned to suit
every budget and the hotel is conveniently located in Mid-Manhattan, within
walking distance of Central Park, Lincoln Center, and the Theater District.

Once you have chosen the activities in which you want to participate please
give some thought to sharing your room. Please send me a note at
andino@rtchaos.com or simply call if you would like to discuss sharing
arrangements.

We want everyone to know that the very first vote taken by the Convention
Committee was that Once Upon A Time In NYC: A Homecoming was to be a
convention for all fans and all seasons. We encourage your participation
and hope that everyone will bring their talents to this unique event. New
York celebrates its diversity and so do we.

Our charity is a small home for tiny infants who, with much love and care,
are nursed through the ravages of being born addicted to drugs or are HIV
positive.
It is a beacon of hope and light in the middle of Harlem not far from the
northern end of Central Park. We invite you to join the members of the
BBTV, (BeautyBeast-TV mailing list), and its charity, Once Upon A Time In
NYC, Inc., and share your light with the children of Hale House
(http://www.halehouse.org).

Sincerely,
Aurea Andino

Re Gwen Lord's pledge drive, I have an idea I'd like to share with you. I
noticed that on the Science Fiction Channel's news site,
http://www.scifi.com, there was a brief report about a petition drive for a
sinking show, even though that petition contained about 500 signatures. I'm
sure we could muster a WHOLE lot more than that in a pledge drive in
support of some form of a Beauty and the Beast video/movie, which Gwen has
started. If we could manage to collect a SUBSTANTIAL number of pledges over
the next few months--either contact Gwen by mail or send a pledge via
e-mail to Marina Broers, who's helping coordinate the drive: Gwen Lord, 6
Meadow Lane Leasingham, Sleaford, Lincs. NG34 8LL England for Gwen;
dirk.vanraes@skynet.be for Marina) I will undertake to convey the final
count, and the substance of the pledges--that they're PROMISES, not just
wishes--to the Scifi wire website as a news item I hope and believe they
would carry. This website is much looked-at by the Powers That Be as a
credible source of news. No matter what other use is made of the final
count.whether it's sent to Ron Koslow, or someone at Viacom, or somewhere
else altogether.I think this pledge drive has the potential of being
NOTICED where it actually might do some good-i.e., on the Scifi Wire
website. So I again encourage people to send their pledges to Gwen, as she
has requested. We'll give a decent amount of time for the total to mount
(given the approaching holidays, with all their distractions and other
claims on everyone's time), then barrage every news source we can think of
(you can help with that, too) with information about the result.

Let's therefore strive to have a result that's newsworthy enough to appeal
not only to SciFi but to local papers and other similar news outlets.
Finding the actual rights holder isn't the only way to get our pledge drive
noticed, and one target doesn't rule out another. Let's start planning
every way we can think of to encourage a media blitz with the results, once
we HAVE results. We're not in the numbers we once were, but we can
certainly field more than 500 signatures...and what series cancelled 10
years ago can claim the same? If you've GOT it, FLAUNT it, say I.

In which regard, I'd appreciate it if Gwen would suggest a suitable
deadline by which pledges must be received to be counted. I have no
particular agenda, but people are more apt to contribute their thought and
energy if there's a specific date we'd be shooting for. I believe that
would most appropriately come from Gwen, depending on the volume of pledges
she's receiving, and hope to hear from her what she thinks a good date
would be, to be the cut-off. Maybe in conjunction with next summer's
convention--a newsworthy event to be a hook for a newsworthy announcement?
I'd be glad to hear suggestions....

More developments about this as they happen..

Helper Hunter has shared with us the bio of Roy Dotrice from the Madigan
Men website. There's also a picture, which I've posted in this update on
the Helpers' Network website, if you'd like to see the item complete.
_____
The elegance Roy Dotrice brings to the theater graces his film and
television roles, as well. On television, he was a regular in four series:
Beauty and the Beast, Picket Fences, Going to Extremes, and Mr.  & Mrs.
Smith. His feature film credits include The Scarlet Letter, The Cutting
Edge, the Academy Award-winning Amadeus, and Swimming with Sharks. Dotrice
has performed in ten Broadway productions, including three one-man shows.
He earned a Tony Award for his featured role in Eugene O'Neill's Broadway
play, A Moon for the Misbegotten, in which he co-starred with Gabriel Byrne.

The website can be found at:

Adds Hunter, "It was nice that B&B received first mention...neat!" I agree:
double neat!

Through the kindness of Helper Lisa Bock we have pictures of a card and the
program for the current production of Laura starring Linda Hamilton. Again,
I've put the scans in this update on the website, and many thanks to Lisa
for sharing these materials with us all.

Helper Pat Paone (who mentioned that she's doing fine and done now with her
radiation therapy! Yea!) has information on a new project for Ron Perlman.
Pat says:

A new title has been added to Ron Perlman's filmography on the IMDB.

                                      "DOWN "(2001)

                                       Director:  Dick Maas

                   Cast:  James Marshall (1), Naomi Watts, Eric Thal,
Michael Ironside,
                      Edward Herrmann, Dan Hedya, Ron Perlman, Kathryn Meisle,
                 Martin McDougall, John Cariani, Daniel Rabin, Ruurt De
Maesschalck.

Ron's character is called Mitchell.

"A lift begins displaying some erratic behavior, like trapping some party
goers and nearly suffocating them, and decapitating a security guard.
Felix, the technician from the lift company, can't find anything wrong with
the circuitry. When he and a nosy reporter begin asking questions of the
lift company's electronics partner (Rising Sun Electronics), his boss puts
him on a leave of absence. A subsequent visit to a professor leads them to
believe that some evil experiments are being conducted with microchips..."

                           Production: Netherlands, First Floor Features [nl]
                               Special effects: Digital Renaissance [de]
                      Filming Locations:  Amsterdam, Noord-Holland,
Netherlands.
                                   New York City, New York, USA.
                                       Budget:  $30m (USA)

                          The release date of this film is yet to be
announced.

Nan again: this and other star-specific information is to be found at the
excellent Perlman Pages adjunct of the CABB website:

http://www.rtchaos.com/cabb/rp.html

And thanks to Pat for the information.

Two weeks' worth of Sightings were sent out and posted on the website
yesterday, so I'll assume you all can check them if and as you wish.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If it's news and has to do with Beauty and the Beast, please think of the
Hotline and relay. We're all in this together, keeping the dream of Beauty
and the Beast alive however we can. Beast wishes, be well, and goodbye.
Again proceeding on the installment plan, here are Sightings for this week
and next, most provided by Helper/Correspondent Maxine Mayer., who never
can be sufficiently thanked. I will have the update ready tomorrow evening
and hope to send it out then, thereby refuting the charge that I can't walk
and chew gum at the same time. I can TOO. However, breathing while doing
the abovementioned is something I confidently expect to master in the very
near future.
Still plugging along,
Nan
