An anonymous helper relayed the very welcome news that Odyssey Channel has
begun another round of showing Beauty and the Beast on Sunday nights at
11:00 p.m. Says my informant, "They are starting over from the first
episode and are on their own cycle-in other words, out of sync with the
weekly sequence. This Sunday will be Siege. I hope this info is useful."
MOST useful, and many thanks, helper! Even though my cable system STILL
does not carry Odyssey, I'm still happy to know that B&B is still airing
and some people, somewhere, are still able to discover and see it and be
enraptured, as we have been. In honor of this renewed airing, I've added
the Odyssey showings to the Sightings lest they be forgot or taken for
granted.

Through the kindness of Helper/photographer Albert Ortega, we have coverage
of two events at which Ron Perlman appeared. There are photos on the
Helpers' Network website. I also direct your attention to the websites from
which this information was derived, as provided by Al-there, you can see
the photos of Ron and others involved in these events.

The first and second concern the premiere of "Price of Glory":

iF - NEWS - PUBLIC EYE
MANN'S NATIONAL THEATER, WESTWOOD, CA.

PRICE OF GLORY, the tale of a father's determination to make a championship
fighter out of his 3 sons after his own boxing career is cut short is
brought to the silver screen by the careful guidance of New Line Cinema,
who hosted the unspooling with film stars Jimmy Smits, Maria del Mar,
Clifton Collins Jr, Jon Seda, Danielle Casmara, Ron Perlman, Sal Lopez,
Louis Mandylor, producer Moctezuma Esparza (SELENA) and director Carlos
Avila. Star Seda is an actual pugilist as a veteran of The Golden Gloves,
how's that for authenticity!

MARCH 23, 2000, MANN'S NATIONAL THEATER, WESTWOOD, CA.

New Line Cinema hosted the premiere for its latest film about a family of
fighters with former NYPD BLUE's Jimmy Smits as the patriarch and keeper of
the dream. Joining Jimmy were the film's cast including Jon Seda and
Clifton Collins Jr. as his sons, Ron Perlman, Maria del Mar, Sal Lopez,
Louis Mandylor, Paul Rodriguez, Danielle Camastra, director Carlos Avila
and producer Moctezuma Esparza (SELENA).

Also on hand for the unspooling were celebrity vips such as Michael
Delorenzo, Justin Berfield of MALCOM IN THE MIDDLE, Victoria Dillard of
SPIN CITY, Dennis Franz, Soleil Moon Frye, Seth Green of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE
SLAYER, and legendary comedian Milton Berle. Rounding out the event were
Judd Nelson, Constance Marie of SELENA, Christopher Gorham of POPULAR,
GENERAL HOSPITAL's Michael Saucedo and Maurice Bernard, Leon, Joanna Garcia
of FREAKS AND GEEKS, Jennifer O'Dell of THE LOST WORLD and singer/actress
Apollonia.

The third item concerns the Independent Spirits Award:

INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARDS -- PART ONE

By ALBERT L. ORTEGA

April 20, 2000

MARCH 25, 2000, A TENT ON THE BEACH, SANTA MONICA, CALIF.

Kicking the establishment in its complacency, The Independent Spirit Awards
is more of a anti-awards show. There are no Billy Crystal movie parodies,
no song performances and no choreographed dance numbers; instead one could
hear the pounding of ceremonial Japanese drums as guests lunched. I don't
know what the VIPs ate, but we were served turkey meatloaf with gravy,
pasta, veggies and Caesar salad with cookies galore! Outside various
sponsors had set up their own tents for attendees to visit, creating a sort
of Middle Eastern marketplace environment.

Some of the very special people spotted valeting their cars were Jennifer
Tilly, who also served as mistress of ceremonies, Reese Witherspoon,
Penelope Cruz, Eric Mabius, Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick, Jeff
Bridges, Ron Perlman, Richard Farnsworth, Hilary Swank and Chad Lowe, Bill
Pullman, Jason Lee, Gale Anne Hurd and more to be announced in our second
installment.

The caption on Ron's picture reads: A constant supporter of indie films is

I thank Al for relaying this information and sharing his photos with us. I
encourage you to go look at the EON and iF websites to see the whole
context for yourselves.

Fan Nancy Lynn Knauff announces a B&B club for students. Nancy says, "We
are a small group so far, about 20 people. I started the club back in
September 99. Joining College Club is free-all you need to be is a college
student, and high school kids can join too! There are quite a few benefits
as well. For College Club info, go to http://www.collegeclub.com. To go
directly to the Beauty and the Beast club, that URL is
http://www.collegeclub.com/clubs/frames_clubs.asp?ClubID=83076."
Just goes to prove that contrary to popular opinion, not all B&B fans are
geriatric..

Sue Krinard, the fine B&B artist who's now become a pro novelist (8
published books so far, she tells me, and counting!) offers some
B&B-related items for sale or auction..and even to give away! If you're
interested in any of them, whether buying or bidding, contact her at
skrinard@aol.com

She notes that prices don't include postage. You may also want to
investigate her website for news about her books, including "Once a Wolf,"
due from Bantam Books in July: http://members.aol.com/skrinard/

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: Portrait of Love, comic by Wendy Pini, 2 copies,
$2.50 each

Cast/Crew jacket, black, wool and leather, size M, with "Beauty and the
Beast" beautifully embroidered on the back. This has hardly been worn and
has just been dry-cleaned; as new. Would probably fit up to a size 14.
Auction: minimum bid $100, through May 15.

Original art by Susan Krinard: 8x10 portrait of Vincent and Catherine, both
looking toward viewer, Catherine smiling. In pen and ink on heavy paper.
Anyone familiar with my work will have an idea what this looks like.
Auction: minimum bid $40, through May 15.

Large color prints of V&C, my artwork, done for a fanzine cover. These are
good quality photoprints, signed and numbered, 11X14. The artwork
(originally in watercolor) is of V&C, nude, upper body (no breast showing),
embracing, with Catherine behind, both looking toward the viewer. Three
available: $15 each plus postage.

Set of four B&W romantic prints of V&C, my artwork, on white cardstock
(these were pencil drawings, nicely reproduced). $5 for set.

FREE FOR POSTAGE: A large 20 X 30 needlepoint canvas, which I painted in
great detail myself (with acrylic paint), of V&C's faces close together. I
had begun to work Catherine's face in needlepoint and petit point, but the
rest still remains to be done. There's no wool to go with it, but I painted
it in such a way that the colors are pretty detailed and really show
through. I think someone who loves needlepoint and B&B might like this.

Here's news passed along by Helper Stephanie Wiltse (thanks, Stef!):

Outer Critics Circle Award Nomination

Roy Dotrice has been nominated outstanding featured actor in a play for "A
Moon for the Misbegotten" by the Outer Critics Circle, an organization of
out-of-town theater reviewers, for the 1999-2000 New York theater season on
April 17th. Now in its 50th year, the awards are sometimes a bellwether of
the Tony Award nominations, to be announced in early May.

Mister Lincoln

The "Broadway Theatre Archive" will be adding a videotape to its catalog of
a performance at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. by Roy Dotrice, who
portrays Abraham Lincoln in this one-man biographical drama, fashioned by
Lincoln biographer Herbert Mitgang, which seeks to dispel some of the myths
and misconceptions about the 16th President. Recalling his life and
political career, Lincoln speaks eloquently on everything from his
depression, his enlistment in the army, his early career as a young
attorney, his courtship of Mary Todd, and the fiery Lincoln-Douglas
debates, to the Civil War and the Emancipation Proclamation, and the death
of his young son. He concludes with a reading of the Gettysburg Address.

And here's what's up with the LA2K ConCom:

Greetings Beauty and the Beast Fans!

THREE more celebrity guests have agreed to join us for "A Distant Shore II:
Remember Love".

Judy Shimizu-Martinez, having been an extra in most of the episodes of
"Beauty and the Beast", is a dear friend to most of the cast and crew, even
to this day. She is a delight to all who meet her. Judy played a tunnel
extra most of the time, but occasionally filled other shoes. For instance,
you can see her, in a red dress, perched on a barstool next to Linda
Hamilton in the bar scene at the beginning of "The Alchemist".

Linda Campanelli, writer of four Beauty and the Beast episodes, "A Gentle
Rain," "The Watcher," "Walk Slowly," and "Chimes at Midnight". Linda,
always full of surprises, has recently begun a new venture with her friend,
Caitlin O'Heaney from "Masques" (whom she met at the convention in Norfolk
in 1996) - starting a fabulous fragrance line called "Caitlin." [Note from
Nan-info about this perfume is available on the Helpers' Network Resources
and References page.]

Margaret Bessera-Prentice, the make-up artist who was responsible for
turning Ron Perlman into Vincent every day during the entire series.
Obviously, Margaret spent a lot of time with Ron and she has many stories
to tell. More recently, Margaret worked on "Bicentennial Man" and "Fight
Club".

Celebrities coming to the convention to date are:

Margaret Bessera-Prentice
Linda Campanelli
Lee Holdridge
Judy Shimizu-Martinez

And Masters of Ceremony:

Jamie Murray/Myhr

(Note: The above celebrity guests have fully confirmed their intention to
appear. But, as always for people in the entertainment business,
appearances are subject to availability. Also, we cannot guarantee that all
guests will be at the convention at all times - most of the celebrities
live in the area and will drop in on us as their schedules permit.)

[Note from Nan-the ConCom went on to recap updates about the add-on day in
the park, the calendar, ads in the conzine, and other matters carried in an
update 2 weeks ago (I think it was). That information is still available on
the Helpers' Network website, so I've deleted it here.)

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=315934665 entitled
"Beauty and the Beast TV Possibilities Zines". Four zines, "Possibilities"
- "(1) Only Angels Have Wings", "(2) Spirit", "(3) Wormwood" and "(4) When
the Music Stopped" by Kim Prosser & Lisa Swope. Q-fer says: (1) 68 pages,
no art. Intriguing story with strong psychological insights. Involves
alternate 3rd season when, after death, C is given the chance to return to
the cave and try to make things come out differently. Examines the split
between the bright and dark sides of V. (2) 84 pages, no art. Two superbly
written stories, says reviewer. In the first, "When Fortune Smiles" by
Terri Blough, V/C bathe (separately) in her tub (tub???), then spend a
quiet evening in her apartment, including eating fortune cookies; in the
title story, by Prosser/Swope, V/C meet an older Holly Golightly (from
Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's)-still feisty and independent. Barb Gipson
cover. (3) 62 pages. Fantasy novelette in which the Other (Dark Vincent)
runs afoul of a sorceress, seeks Catherine's legal advice and help.
Unusual, imaginative. Barb Gipson cover. (4) 74 pages, no art, occasional
art By Barb Gipson. This must-have Classic novelette covers the aftermath
of "Arabesque," focusing on the problems Lisa both caused and revealed
about V's inhibitions about love. As in the other volumes of the series, V
attempts to come to terms with his irreverent, pragmatic, slangy Dark
Side-here, a separate and intriguing character. Part of that adjustment
involves giving the violence a harmless outlet: working out with a
wrestler, for fun. Subplots and other developments include V's writing to
Devin for advice about sex; V's stripping to discover if C will be repelled
(she's not); C stubbornly learning to weave to make herself useful, Below;
V's thoughts (an epilogue) about Jacob. The authors' writing, as always, is
excellent; the zine is particularly thoughtful and insightful. Barb Gipson
cover and sparse interior art.  $5.00 domestic shipping, contact seller for
international shipping. Auction ends April 30, 2000.
