"Crossroads / Fans of Fantasy" - June 1998
This is news for may 24th 1998 from Nan Nibble and Helper's Network Hotline for fans of Beauty and the Beast. The hotline number is (513) 961-3317 (USA); my home phone (evenings/weekends) is (513) 961-4813. To contact me by e:mail, post to either helpnet@juno.com OR ndibble@fuse.net.

I have several items of unwelcome news this week, so i'll try to get that over with at once.
First, the Crossroads/Fans of Fantasy convention, scheduled for Las Vegas in mid-June, has been cancelled.
I just talked to Dorothy Seltzer, the head of the concern, who said that they'd had a backer who pulled out, and their contract with the hotel had hidden charges that they only found out about last week. So last Firday, 5/22/98, they made the decision that the convention could not happen.
Registrations will be refunded on the following basis: half of each person's registration will be refunded as soon as possible; the balance will be refunded in between 30-60 days.

However, according to Beth Blighton, to whom I also talked today, the Earth 2 events and guests are not only going to continue, but have expanded; in addition to the breakfast with the Earth 2 guests scheduled for the Wednesday, there will be a full day with the E2 contingent that Wednesday. However, given that the con registrations are being refunded, Beth says there will be a small (roughly $20) additional charge for the added time with the E2 guests (whom they'll have to pay anyway, and it can't come out of the registration money). If you are specially interested in the E2 portion of the con and still intend to go, and if you have questions about this new arrangement, Beth invites you to e;mail her at skippery_boo@juno.com. She prefers to have you e-mail her; but if for some reason that's impossible, you can call her (she's in the Central time zone): (616) 925-070.

Beth asked me to emphasize that she has no role whatever in refunding registration. Do NOT contact her about that, please, because there's nothing she can do to expedite a refund. Her only involvement is with the Earth 2 activities.

I'm sure I express the feelings of many of the fandom when I say how sorry I am that all the hard work the concom put into this, and the large and varied list of prospective guests, has had to be cancelled. I thank Beth and Dorothy for informing me of the situation so promptly, and I wish to be prompt in my turn.
