    • Note that the Files of Type command currently shows as Puzzle Files. This means that only Puzzle files will be listed (those that end with .xwd)
    • Click on the file that you wish to open, and click on the OK button. Alternatively, just double-click on the file that you wish to open.
    • If you had made any changes to your previous crossword without saving, you will be asked whether you wish to save your changes before opening the file. Choose Yes if you do, No if you wish to lose the changes, or Cancel if you wish to cancel from Opening the crossword.
    • Note that when you open or save a puzzle, it is added to the bottom of the Puzzle menu in the Most Recently Used or MRU list), just above the Exit option. To access one of these recently opened or saved files, just click on the menu option to quickly open it again. You can clear this list by clicking on the Clear option just below the list. Up to 9 recently used files can be shown on the MRU list.
Other File Types Whilst opening a crossword, you can change Files of Type from Puzzle Files to one of the following listed below:-
Puzzle Templates - When you open a template, a duplicate of the template will be created to form the basis for a new crossword. The filename for a crossword template ends with .xwt
Encrypted Puzzles (Distributables) - This is a puzzle designed to be solved but not changed.
When such a file is opened, the user is presented with a blank grid, and has access only to the clues rather than the answers. As the user fills in the blank grid, the letters are coloured according to whether the answer is correct or not.
This file is encrypted to prevent prying eyes from seeing the solutions easily by looking at the contents of the file. It is also password protected, so that unless the puzzler has the password and the full version of the program, he or she cannot make changes to the puzzle.
Reverting It is possible to undo all changes you have made to the puzzle since the last time you saved it to disk by choosing the Revert option from the Puzzle menu. Similar options are available for Clue Pool and Word List files.
Provided Samples Various sample files are provided with WordPuzzle Pro to get you on the way to producing crosswords of your own, and also some samples to try out for yourself.

The files are kept in the application's own directory, in the following subdirectories:-
