Create a new Puzzle

Create a New Puzzle There are two main methods for creating a new crossword:
  • Create a new puzzle with a new grid design
This would be where you wish to design the pattern of outs on a grid, or to change the size of the grid (full version only) from scratch.
  • Create a new Puzzle from a Template
This would be where you wish to reuse a previously saved grid design. Click here for more details on opening previously saved templates, and here on how to save a puzzle as a template.
  • To create a brand new puzzle, follow these instructions:-

  • Click on the Puzzle menu from the main menu of the main (grid) screen
  • Click on the New... option.
  • Alternatively, instead of the above two steps, hold down the Ctrl key and press N.
  • The Create a new puzzle dialog box is displayed on the screen.
  • If you wish to retain the pattern of the currently displayed puzzle and just remove the letters and clues, ensure that the Keep pattern of current puzzle is checked.
  • In the Title edit box, enter the new title for the puzzle. This is copied to the Properties box automatically.
  • If you want to reuse the list of categories available in the current puzzle, ensure the Keep Categories of current puzzle option is checked.
  • If you decided that you did not want to keep the pattern of the current puzzle, then you will then have the option of changing the size of the puzzle - i.e. how many squares down and across are in the grid. Normally, these would be set the same as most puzzles are square. The size either across or down must be in the range of 3 to 299 squares. Note that the shareware version of the program will not allow you to save or otherwise export puzzles over 15x15 in size.
  • Click on the OK button to continue creating the blank puzzle, or Cancel to cancel the creation.
  • Note that the colours, images and fonts will be carried through from the previously opened puzzle.
