Working with Categories
Categories are used to identify the type of clue. They are particularly useful
when used with the Clue Pool, as the clue pool can be searched by category, which means
when you want to reuse clues of a particular type (e.g. for a themed puzzle, or if you
only want to use straight clues), you can find them easily.
In the Available Category list, each category has next to it a number in parentheses,
which shows the number of times the category is used in the puzzle or clue pool
(whichever you are looking at).
Note that the puzzle has its own category list distinct from the Clue Pool, which also
has its own category list. If you copy a clue from one to the other, then the categories
used by the copied clue are automatically synchronized between the two lists.

| Delete a category | You may wish to remove a category
if (for example) the category is unlikely to be used.
|
||||
| Rename a category | You may wish to rename a category
if you decide later that the category could have a better description.
|
||||
| Copying categories from the pool | If
you are creating a new puzzle, or updating an older puzzle, you may
wish to update its categories to include those from the currently open
clue pool, without having to manually check the differences.
This can be accomplished by clicking on the Clues menu and selecting the Copy Categs from Pool menu item. Make sure you have the clue file opened first! A dialog box will show you how many categories have been copied successfully. |
||||
| Remove extraneous categories | When
you have completed your puzzle, you may wish to remove the categories
that were not used, as these are extraneous to the puzzle's needs, and
take up valuable space in the saved puzzle.
To do this, click on the Clues menu, and select the Remove Extraneous Categs menu item. A dialog box will show you how many categories have been removed as a result of not being used by any clues in the puzzle. |
