Various aspects of the look of the puzzle can be universally controlled from this one screen. In many cases, this can be overridden on individual cells.

For example, you can set the colour, or associated image for all outs, or all spaces on the grid. You can set spaces on the grid to be transparent as default, to show any pictures underneath. You can also make the whole grid transparent, except for any letters and outs you fill in.

You can set the colour for mismatches (i.e. when puzzler is completing the crossword, the computer can show incorrect letters in a different colour). You can set the colour and size of the border around each cell. You can set the colour and size of the barres that separate clues. You can set the size of clues that appear within outs in the puzzle. And the relative size between numbers and letters on the grid. You can even set the clue numbers to appear in a different colour when clues have not been completed for the word on the grid, so you can tell at a glance whether the which clues on the grid need to be completed.
