Nothing seems to happen when I compile/run/compress a program. |
This section gives a range of common problems you may encounter whilst using Java and the QuickCup environment. If you have any other difficulties that are not covered in this section, you can email a request - see the contacts section for details of where to send the request.
Q. When I try to compile, run applet viewer, launch an application or create a JAR file, nothing seems to happen - the black screen seems to indicate that the process is performed very quickly, but I get no other feedback.
A1. Have you installed the Java Software Development Kit? This can be downloaded from http://www.java.sun.com/j2se for the standard edition or from http://www.java.sun.com/j2ee for the enterprise edition. This contains the various Java tools such as the Java Compiler that work with any Java Integrated Development Environment such as QuickCup.
A2. Look on the Settings tab. At the bottom, in the section
labelled Java Developers Kit (JDK) Environment Information is a text-box
labelled Base JDK Path. This relates to the directory or folder where the
Java Software Development Kit was installed. For example, if you installed jdk
1.3.1, the default location for installation would be c:\jdk1.3.1 - thus, this
should appear in this text box. If it doesn't, it may be that the project you
have opened is designed to work with a specific JDK version - if the box
labelled Store environment information with project file? is ticked, this
would probably be the case.
The solution is either to download and use the correct JDK version for the
project, or alternatively (for example if the text box is blank, or if it
doesn't matter which JDK version you compile the project with), to change the
text box to match the base directory in which the JDK is installed.
