ArcTel is a Telnet Client program, written with automation of Telnet-related tasks in mind.
Telnet is an Internet protocol that allows you to use your PC as a virtual terminal over a TCP/IP connection.
In real terms, this means you can log into a remote computer that supports the Telnet protocol, and work on the computer as though you were a terminal connected to that computer.
The automation facilities of ArcTel means that you can write programs or Scripts to perform commonly required tasks automatically. You can also execute a script from another program using command-line parameters (described later).
There are various ways that you can customise a terminal connection to make it more suited to your tasks. All of these customisations can be performed within the scripting language, if required.
There is also comprehensive logging support, so that you can keep tabs on the activity on telnet sessions. Again, this can be fully controlled within the scripting language.
ArcTel is ideal for use within commercial environments where there is often a requirement for triggering tasks remotely. Its ability to integrate with other programs also introduces the potential to use ArcTel as an interface to an existing remote application.
In order to use Telnet, you must have a TCP/IP stack set up on your computer. If you are already connecting to the Internet or a local Intranet, then this will already be set up, ready for you to use.
