ArcTel - Installation & Registration

Installation Details

  1. Open Windows Explorer and find the folder where you have stored ArcTel. Alternatively, if you have downloaded ArcTel from the web site, you may be able to execute the setup program automatically.
    Double-click on the  icon.
  2. You will see a dialog box like the one shown here. This packages the installation into one file and compresses it to make the download smaller.
    Click on the  button to commence installation. A dialog box like this will show for about a minute whilst the installation program prepares to start.
  3. You will then see a Welcome screen. Click on the  button to continue the installation process.
  4. The Software License Agreement screen is then displayed. Read this carefully. Continuing the installation process implies an acceptance of these terms and conditions. Click on the  button to continue having accepted this agreement or  otherwise.
  5. Information about the latest release of ArcTel including contact information is then shown. Click on the  button to continue to the next screen.
  6. Choose the Destination Location if you do not want to install the software in the default location (c:\Program Files\Arctan Computer Ventures Ltd\Arctel) by clicking on the  button and selecting a directory. Generally, the default is fine, so skip this step.
  7. Click on the  button to move onto the next screen.
  8. Choose a program folder in which to access the program files. This is the name of the folder under the Programs menu under the Start Bar. Generally, you will skip this stage, and accept the default of ArcTel.
  9. Click on the  button to commence installation.
  10. The screen will flash a bit whilst programs are being copied and the new program folder is being created. Then you will see a dialog box headed Setup Complete.
    Click on the Yes, I want to view the README File if you wish to see the readme text shown earlier. Click on Yes, Launch the program file if you wish to now start the ArcTel application.
  11. Click on the  button.
  12. Wait a few seconds whilst the WinZip Self-Extractor closes down, removing any temporary setup files as it goes.

  Installation is now complete

Registration of ArcTel

  When you try out ArcTel as a ShareWare product, you are implicitly agreeing that if you find the application useful, then you will purchase a license to use the software within thirty days of first trying the product.

Prior to registration, you will be reminded how many days you have remaining before needing to register through the use of a splash-screen that appears when you launch and close the application.

By registering the product, you are not only giving yourself twelve months of support in case of difficulties, and free upgrades for those twelve months, but also you are helping to support the continuing development of the product, and other products, by the author.

On-Line Registration

  To register the software, visit the ArcTel web site at http://www.simonhuggins/arctan/arctel/order.htm and choose either a secured on unsecured link to the payment site, where you can pay online using a variety of methods.

You will then be emailed a confirmation and a keycode, which you use to turn the splashscreen off, and effectively turn the application into a registered copy, as described in the next section.

Unlocking the application

  Once you have received an email with a keycode (six letters followed by six numbers), do the following:-

1.        Launch the ArcTel application as described at the beginning of the following chapter.

2.        Click on the Connection menu

3.        Click on the Unlock (Register) button

4.        A dialog box is displayed (see picture)

5.        Type the unlock code in the edit box

6.        Click on the OK button.

7.        If the keycode was correct, and for the correct version of ArcTel, you will see a confirmation dialog box telling you that the application is unrestricted.

8.        Click on the OK button.

9.        When you next use the application, the splashscreen warning you of the number of days left before registration is required, will not be displayed.
